How Can These Be Considered the Same?
The odds of being hurt by a distracted driver are terrifying. Kansas University and the University of Utah have published statistics. In the Science of Distracted Driving published on Car Talk the following facts are established:
Facts on Distracted Driving
- The odds of getting into a crash are 4 times higher when the driver is talking on the phone.
- Talking on a cell phone while driving is like driving drunk at above .08 BAT- the legal limit in 50 states.
- The odds of crashing while texting are 8 times higher than without distraction.
- Carrying on a conversation with a passenger does not carry the same impairments as does texting and cell phone use.
